Darlene was crowned Classic International Woman on November 11, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Classic International Woman (CIW) celebrates the beauty and life stories of women empowering us to find our purpose, to be grateful and to embrace all the possibilities that come our way. CIW is a pageant for women aged forty-five and above regardless of marital status - single, widowed or divorced.

Spotlight on Classic International Woman 2018

How was your experience at CIW during the pageant

My experience with the Classic International Woman pageant was fabulous. From the day I registered through the day of crowning, I had the most fantastic experience.

Throughout the CIW World Finals Pageant weekend in La Vegas, fun events and activities were planned daily. There were countless opportunities to bond with the other delegates and developed a sisterhood - dinners, orientation get together, activities, photo shoots, rehearsals, seminar, and then some. My favorite event that weekend was "Ball Gowns and Bowling Shoes." Together with delegates, staff, families, friends, and the like, we laughed nonstop! It was truly memorable.

Claim to fame

I'm petite, but I pack a punch.  Meaning that when I set my mind to something I accomplish it and make an impact.  I also have a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Taekwon-Do.

Fun fact about you

I am a fitness model and bikini competitor.

If you have one wish to be granted in 2018, what is it and why?  

It is to assist people by helping them get healthy to save their own lives. Exercise and food is medicine. If we don’t “move” or “push” our bodies or eat unhealthy food, then we are at risk for serious health consequences such as heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis and much more.


Life In Pageants 

When did you start getting involved in pageants?

I got involved in pageants in 2012. I saw it as a way to spread my passion for health and fitness. I love helping people and teaching them how to be strong. You cannot help others if you are not strong enough to help yourself.

Why did you choose the Classic International Woman system?

I chose the CIW system because I want to show the world that age is just a number and that if you can dream it, you can achieve it. It is an honor to represent the Classic International Woman. I use my years of age as a life experience that I can share with the world.

Tell us about your platform or yourself, choose one or both.

My platform is health and fitness. I work for a medical fitness center. To be more specific, I am a Cancer Exercise Specialist. I get assigned patients once they are finished with their treatments, and I create a workout program to get them strong. I also design workouts and hold workshops for Osteoporosis patients. It is important to teach that body movement is crucial to becoming and staying strong. I teach that by exercising you can improve or prevent heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, minimize the discomfort of arthritis, decrease insomnia and depression. I also teach proper nutrition. By eating healthy you can prevent diabetes, improve cholesterol levels and reduce body fat.

Passion or interest outside of pageantry

My passion outside of pageantry is being a fitness model and bikini competitor. I’ve done runway and print. I love exercising and competing on stage. I compete against women 20 years younger than I am. I’m showing the world that this is possible.


Beauty And Women Empowerment

Define beauty

Beauty is how you make someone else feel. If you can build someone’s self-esteem, teach them how to be strong and stand up for themselves, make them be happy and smile, then you’ve achieved beauty.

Define women empowerment

Women empowerment is having a dream, staying on your path to achieve that dream, even if you get opposing opinions. Stand strong and hold your ground. Then once you’ve done that you use your achievements to make an impact on someone else.

My claim to fame is impacting countless lives within the charitable organizations I have been involved in for nearly three decades.

A fun fact about me is having been a Radio DJ on the University of San Francisco Campus Radio Station, in the late 80’s.

 If you have one wish to be granted in 2018, what is it, and why?

To be crowned as World Finalist for Classic International Woman 2018, and impact the global community in a positive way.

Tell us something you can’t live without and why?

I can’t live without my family. No matter where life takes me, my family is my rock, my inspiration, my joy, and my family always share my best memories.


Life In Pageants 

When did you start getting involved in pageants?

Our daughter, Alyssa participated in the Miss Arizona Teen USA Pageant in 2016. With that, I came to realize what a tremendous opportunity pageant systems set forth to encourage beauty from within and community involvement possibilities.

Why did you choose the Classic International Woman system?

Lynda Samuels and her kindness and stature in the pageant world lead to a phenomenal first impression of CIW. I agree with what Classic International Woman stands for, equality amongst women.

Tell us about your platform or yourself, choose one or both.

I care very much for many worthwhile organizations. My platform is Community Service in all capacities. Women, children, the elderly, and the work necessary in our society to turn lives around to the positive.

Passion or interest outside of pageantry

My passion is in the Fine Arts. I am a well established ceramic and sculpture artist. I enjoy sharing my passion with others whether mentoring High School level artists or supporting art galleries local tome.

Define beauty

Beauty to me comes from within and has no boundaries. Confidence, poise, genuineness, intelligence, and the height of beauty is to have a heart of gold.

Define women empowerment

Women empowerment is all women lifting each other up to find our strengths. Empowering women around us to take on our biggest dreams with confidence. As women, our possibilities are endless and everything is within reach.
